Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in Sandwell and in working for the council.

Our new corporate plan: Big Plans for a Great Place, sets out our ambition to deliver Vision 2030, creating a healthier, more successful future for the people of Sandwell – working as one council and one team with our residents, businesses and partners.

We want to create opportunities to put Sandwell on the map, creating a borough where people are proud of their local area, have better paid jobs and opportunities, supported by increased skills for our workforce and more opportunities for young people.

To make this vision a reality means exciting times lie ahead for both the council and the new directors, and it’s a significant time to be joining us. We need inspiring, forward thinking and collaborative directors, who have strong financial management skills and who can drive performance throughout their teams.

We already deliver good work, but we need to build on this through innovation and by exploring new ways to deliver services and generate income.

The new structure is taking shape and major change is already underway. Our directorates are large and diverse so we need directors who can balance strategy with a strong grasp of operational priorities. The One Council, One Team approach is at the heart of how we will work to deliver our corporate plan and there are real opportunities to join up different areas of the council and work better together. If we get these things right it will deliver for the customers, staff and council.

I want you, as part of our new team of directors, to support me in developing a culture that helps the organisation become more agile, delivery focused and adept at working in partnership with others. We have a key role to play regionally – including with the West Midlands Combined Authority – and you will each have a high-profile role in that.

I hope you like what you’ve seen so far and that you explore the benefits of joining our new management team that’s looking to do things differently and where you will have the chance to shape the council’s journey and put your mark on things as we move forward.
